Postdoctoral Fellowship - Advancing sow reproduction knowledge Position Number 31595 Project scope: Managing production sows during gestation and lactation to optimize sow lifetime productivity is important for competitive and sustainable agriculture. Deeper knowledge will be gained in production sows on the effects of different nutritional strategies on ovaries, embryos and litters, in addition this knowledge will also be applied to developing improved embryo transfer protocols. The successful candidate will have a background in female reproductive biology, and a high level of interest in nutrition and genetics. The successful applicant will be based at the University of Manitoba and will join the research group of Dr. Martin Nyachoti.
 
The primary activities involved in this research project includes: conducting research trials on feeding of sows, performing statistical analysis of feeding and reproduction data, performing ovarian ultrasound, and non-surgical embryo transfer, and preparing interim reports and manuscripts. As part of the research team, you will have the opportunity to gain insight as a close collaborator with an international swine company. There is also potential for you to participate and present your findings at national and international conferences.
 
Recent Ph.D. degree (within the past 4 years) in Animal Science or similar; Experience in reproduction is essential; Experience in conducting experiments in swine production and slaughter facilities; Experience in statistical analysis; Proven project management skills with the ability to comply with project deadlines and milestones; Proficient communication skills and ability to work in multidisciplinary teams; Leadership skills and the ability to inspire and motivate people; and An excellent publication track record is required. It is required that the applicant is fluent in written and spoken English.
 
This position will be a full-time, fixed term employment at the University of Manitoba with a negotiable starting date, ideally February 01, 2022 or soon after for a period of two years up to February 2024 depending on pandemic and public health guidelines in Manitoba. The salary will be between $40,000 and $60,000 CAD per year plus benefits, depending on qualifications and experience.
